Bio
I believe I've always been inspired by the faery folk. My mother has pictures I painted when I was about five years old of faeries with glitter trailing their skirts. However, it wasn't until my late teens that I became conscious of them. On my seventeenth birthday, I was given a copy of "Faeries" by Brian Froud and Alan Lee. I hid the book between my math and English books, and throughout the school day devoured every page, not hearing a word my teachers said. I didn't know what to do with this new information, so I went on to paint portraits. After a while, I noticed every time I painted a little girl or boy or wife of a wealthy patron, or the wealthy patron himself, I had the desire to give them pointy ears. It was then I knew the path I should follow, and I've been painting and sculpting images of faerie ever since. To date, my images have been licensed by Heaven & Earth Designs and The Fairy Society. My sculptures have been published in Contemporary Doll Collector Magazine, American Miniaturist Magazine, and Dollhouse Miniatures Magazine. Currently, I sell most of my work on eBay and through my web site. In October 2008 I will have my first one woman show at Zahra's Studio in Beacon New York. J.M.
